Approaching the tenth Sunday in ordinary time part 2).

Where we are heading to (readings for Sunday Jun 9):

1 Kings 17.17-24
Psalm 30
Galatians 1:11-24
Luke 7:11-17

Readings for today:

Psalm 30
2 Samuel 14.12-24
Acts 26.1-11

Brief thoughts for today:

So having told David the tale of the widow and two warring sons, and elicited the King's sympathy, the wise woman from Tekoa now challenges the King about his attitude to Absalom. Joab may well have given her the script, but she plays the part well and with courage. nevertheless, the King can see the influence of his chief of staff. Talking directly to Joab the King gives permission for Absolom, to return to Jerusalem - but at this stage he is to keep a low profile. Reconciliation is troublesome work! In the Acts narrative we have jumped to Paul's defence before Agrippa. As a prelude to recounting (again) his call, Paul describes his former life. Once he went to 'foreign cities' to persecute, but now he will go to the ends of the earth to bring God's reconciliation to all.
