thought for today

God seeks to teach the rebellious Reheboam something through subjection to a foreign power. Chronicles says that he humbled himself. Part of the problem that lead to the dividing of the kingdom was a distinct lack of humility among Reheboam and 'the friends who had grown up with him.' Perhaps they had not paid attention to the proverbs attributed to his father! Or if they had attended, and knew them with their heads, they had hardly started on the journey of letting God transform their character. May God bless us on that same journey.
